It’s Just Benign.org, Social Security Disability, Glamour Magazine & Investigation Discovery

Phew! That’s a long headline. But if you missed my previous blog about benign brain tumors and social security disability, here’s a link to a very similar article posted by the wonderful Beth Rosenthal of Itsjustbenign.org – http://www.itsjustbenign.org/page/benign-brain-tumors-and-social-security-disability?xg_ppc=s1

You have to join her website to read the article. A year’s subscription costs a princely $15. A lifetime subscription costs $40.  I’ve subscribed and love the community, the information and the member resources.
I also hope you will join me in nominating her as “An Everyday Hero.” It’s a contest sponsored by Glamour magazine and Investigation Discovery. Here’s the link: http://www.glamour.com/inspired/sponsored/inspire-a-difference I just learned that the contest deadline is September 8th, so please send something in asap.

Got Meningioma? Get the T-Shirt!

Here’s a quick quiz:

  1. Do you have meningioma?
  2. Are you a Meningioma survivor?
  3. Do you know a meningioma survivor?
  4. Do you wish that Beth Rosenthal’s wonderful Its Just Benign website was prospering and would continue to prosper and help meningioma victims and caretakers and friends and family?
If you answer "yes' to any of these questions, head over to http://www.cafepress.com/itsjustbenign and check out the spiffy¹ new IBJ T-shirts, clothing, mugs, shopping bags, Frisbees, hats and other goodies.

Doing so will help IBJ - a great nonprofit - and enrich your soul. If you don’t have a soul, you might be able to buy one on the website because she seems to have everything else you’d need.

John

PS – IBJ also has great member forums, blog opportunities, a “survivor spotlight” and lots of other great stuff.

¹I’m always somewhat confused as to the right word to use in this circumstance. Feel free to reread the sentence using “righteous,” “cool,” "groovy," “fabulous,” “neat-o,” “wicked,” or “hip.” Now if I could just work “snap” into the sentence, I’d feel really awesome.

It’s just Benign: Survivor Spotlight

If you haven’t visited Beth Rosenthal’s www.itsjustbenign.com website lately, you should. Its chock full of information: answers to questions from website members, summer camps for kids and a variety of groups discussing important topics like:

“I can’t drive anymore”
“Cognitive Issues”
“Seizures”

I like it because it’s a focused, well-meaning, helpful community that has all suffered. I’ve recently started reading the “Survivor Spotlight” and find them particularly heartfelt. The current survivor story featuring Paul Gerard emphatically puts a lie to the myth of benign tumors being “benign.”

Full disclosure: IJB membership costs a princely $10/year.

It’s Just Benign

If you have meningioma, know somebody who has meningioma or just learned that you have meningioma, you should visit this site.

  • The site is dedicated to issues surrounding meningioma
  • Beth Rosenthal, the founder, creates a great sense of community
  • The website smashes to bits the lie that “benign” tumors don’t hurt you
  • Victims unabashedly share their fears and worries and latest news
  • The “interest” groups are particularly relevant to brain tumor victims, e.g. Migraines, Parents of Diagnosed Children, Seizures, Cognitive Issues, Depression & Anxiety Group
  • They have an active, if regional, series of monthly support groups
 Here’s a link to their website: http://www.itsjustbenign.org/
